I Promised You a Poem
I promised you a poem
but chances are few
I promised you a poem
let me write one for you
You distract me with silence
as we stroll on the sand
admiring the sunrise
as we walk hand in hand
You distract me with laughter
as we watch that old movie
Cover your mouth when you snort
you can’t fool me
You distract me with coffee
the essence of life
and that terrible humour
you’ll cause me some strife
You distract me with food
and earthly delights
“Let’s go out for dinner!”
As I sit down to write
You distract me with love
every day, every night
a blissful distraction
but I’ve seen the light
I promised you a poem
but chances are few
I promised you a poem
Will this one do?
